Glass Christmas ornaments fist made their appearance around 1870s in the hands of German people. F.W. Woolworth, in 1880, stocked his shelves with glass Christmas ornaments though with much hesitation. But it was since then that Christmas ornaments became a Christmas staple especially glass Christmas ornaments. An enormous variety of glass Christmas ornaments from over 5,000 different molds have made their appearance since then. Such Christmas glass ornaments include figures of Santa Claus, hand painted glass Christmas ornaments, pine cone, birds, nuts, flowers, clusters of grapes, and musical instruments.

Among the many beautiful glass ornaments made from mold figures of Santa Claus gained maximum popularity. Sometimes, only the head were shown, while at other times the entire figure was made. The distinctive feature of such Santa Claus figures was that it ended in a round base with no legs. Usually the Santa carried a Christmas tree or bag of toys in the traditional manner. Some glass Christmas ornaments included a free-blown eight-inch stork standing on a branch of Christmas tree. Etched glass surface producing a frosted appearance constitutes another glass Christmas ornament.

Hand blown, hand painted glass Christmas ornaments depicting imaginary figures of Grandfather Frost, the Snow Maiden and other popular Russian folk tale figures became popular in Russia. Many hand blown glass Christmas ornaments were silvered and painted entirely by hand by different artists. The pine cone has always been in great demand. Apart from that, Santa, birds, nuts, flowers, clusters of grapes, and musical instruments such as drums and violins also gained popularity. Geometric designs included variations on the ball shape.

The glass Christmas ornaments are in great demand even today. The traditional glass ornaments are priced between $500-600 each. Ornament's age, color, condition and manufacturer also count when it comes to determining the price of the ornaments. Organizations such as the Golden Glow of Christmas Past provide the customers with a wide range of products. Keep browsing WorldChristmasCelebration for more information.
