Christmas Carols are based on Christian lyrics and Biblical stories. Christmas Carol songs are also popular as Noel. It is an old ritual to sing pious Christmas Carols in the church during Christmas celebration.

Italy was the birthplace of the first Christmas Carol song. Saint Francis of Assisi introduced Christmas song in the 13th century. He wrote a beautiful Christmas song in Latin. Then he composed that Christmas song in Italian but there is no evidence of this incident.

Carol, the word came from French word 'Caroller', which means dancing around in a circle. ‘Music’ and ‘lyric’, these two words are also associated with the word Carol.

In England, Oliver Cromwell banned the Christmas Carols as he was a staunch Protestant. During the Victorian era, Christmas Carols were again popularized with all its features. In 19th century, these Carols were very popular in United States as well as in England, as both the countries have been closely connected through the centuries.

Earlier the Christams carol songs had no mention of Santa Claus, reindeer or bear. But gradually with time these have become a part of christmas celebrations as well as christmas carol songs. Christmas carol songs praise Lord Jesus and its beautiful lyrics stand for the prevalence of peace and truth on earth.
